As Faye walked through the village she was surprised to hear silence. In her own village the laughter of children could be heard for miles around, but here quiet filled the streets. The quiet seemed to give the place an eerie feel in the air. It made the already cold atmosphere seem to be a hundred times colder. Shifting her coat tighter around her shoulders she looked around and saw children huddled in groups shivering outside of tents while mothers stirred stones in pots and fathers hung their heads in shame. This place made Faye feel strange. Compared to these people she was a princess. She may have barely had any coppers to cover her hide, but she still had something. These people had nothing. It was a very humbling thought. Seeing the villagers eyeing her companions in hunger she pulled them closer. She may feel bad for them, but that didn't mean she would let them have her animals. Still though, she longed to help the children, to give them hope, but nothing she thought of seemed less than charity. If she offered to take the children off of their hands she would have more mouths to feed and she could barely feed herself or her two companions. Plus the families would believe that she was a witch who needed their children so that she could practice her dark arts on them. She couldn't spare any coins because she had so little and she needed them to provide for herself. She needed a way to bring joy to these children and to help them believe that life would get better without causing herself to switch places with them. She knew how it felt to feel hopeless, to feel as though the world had given up on her. She knew of the nightmares they probably had from the beatings , the beatings that were given out of frustration. Of course hers had been given from other youth her age and not disgruntled parents whose dreams had died within them. Blinking back tears she felt Ghost's eyes on her. Patting the wolf's head she tried to reassure her without words that she was alright. She so wished that she could ask her for guidance but, she was already walking with a wolf with a dragon on her shoulder. Talking to them would cause suspicion to fall on her head and while many places didn't mind people with special powers she had heard that many people in this village would not hesitate to kill someone who had special powers, even if they weren't a witch and just had been born gifted. That was just what she needed, to be hung for being a witch when she hadn't even touched a wand nor did she know any spells. That would just be grand especially when she needed to finish her quest. To add the topping on the cake after she was hung they would probably divide her bones among them before killing and eating her two companions. Grimacing at the thought of being eaten, she tried to turn her thoughts back to the issue at hand : How could she make the lives of the children here more bearable?

Children. That was the only soft spot that Kyrie had left in her cold heart. That is the way it had to be though, in this place, you could only look out for yourself and that is something that Kyrie believed in with all her heart – but children were different. They have yet to understand the ways of the world, they have yet to sin, and it was not their own faults they were hungry – they could do nothing about it. Although Kyrie lived in another village, she often came here, to give what little she had to them. She always felt eyes upon her though, the children loved her, but their parents hated her. It was to be suspected – after all what Kyrie was, but they never rejected her money, their eyes were filled too much with lust and ignored where the money had come from – who had given them their coins. Kyrie didn’t care about the parents, they were just hypocrites, they did whatever they could for money – even steal – yet they dare shame Kyrie on how she got hers? It didn’t make sense.
Kyrie smiled when three children ran up to her; her smile was warm and genuine. She loved children; it reminded her of her own daughter, who she had to give away – who would be proud of her? She was nothing in this world. “Here you go,” Kyrie said to the children as she reached in her pocket and pulled out six bronze coins, giving the children two each. It didn’t seem like a lot, but that could buy them bread for the next two days or so. Kyrie felt the weight of the silver in her pockets; she would give more if she could, but she had yet to pay Madam and she would be angry if she got slight changed in what she believes she owed. Kyrie would be making twice as much as she did, if it wasn’t for her. She sighed as she patted the children on their heads as they said thank you over rand over. They were so thin, and their faces were covered in dirt. Kyrie was sorry for them, for like her they were born some of the unlucky ones. They would remain in this village until they died, and death could be just a turnabout the corner.

As Faye was trying to determine a way to bring joy to the village children, she noticed three children running toward a woman who stood just a few feet in front of her. The children seemed to be strangely excited to see the woman and the woman seemed happy to see the children. Yet although the woman was dressed in similar clothes as the children, but she didn't look as though she belonged in the village. Frowning slightly, Faye continued to watch the interaction between the woman and children curiously. The woman reached into her pocket and gave the children... something before patting them on the heads. Faye couldn't see exactly what it was but she assumed that she was giving them coins. It made her smile a little to see a spark of kindness in such a rough place. Maybe people here aren't all that bad, she thought. Immediately after she that a figure raced by her ,bumping into her and knocking her to the ground earning a growl from Ghost. "Ow," Faye mumbled quietly, "that hurts." Reaching inside her coat pocket to make sure that everything was still properly arranged she noticed that 2 of her copper coins were gone. Blinking in disbelief, Faye twisted around to find the person responsible and was disgusted to find a deserted street.Okay maybe there are still a lot of bad people she thought as she groaned inwardly, at least I carry my coin pouch in my pack. It may not have been a major major loss, but the theft still hurt. It meant that she would be unable to get meat again this month. Sighing she tried to brush the thought from her mind. Looking up Faye saw that the woman was still standing there. Maybe she will be able to help me bring joy to this hopeless place, well at least bring joy to the children. Silently sending a prayer to God that the woman wouldn't hurt her she rose from the ground, dusted off and walked slowly over to where the woman was standing. Putting on what she hoped was a disarming yet genuine smile, Faye said a very quiet and light "Hi."

Kyrie smiled as the children ran away, but when she straightened up she saw someone else standing above her. Kyrie gave her and odd look and crossed her arms. Kyrie was good with children. They were pure and innocent, the mark of the world yet to corrupt them. Adults on the other hand, they always had an agenda on their mind, no one truly cared for others, it was all about gaining the upper hand. Kyrie had no idea why this woman came up and spoke to her. No one did that. Well, guys did sometimes, but never women! It then dawned on her that she must not be from this place, and that was why she was able to casually greet Kyrie. She could already see the whispers going on by the woman around, wondering why this woman was speaking to such a slut like her.
“Hello?” She asked questioning. She wasn’t sure what to say. She sighed as she spoke next. “You should not be here, young traveler. It’s not a safe place, you much be better returning to wherever you’re from.” Kyrie said in a calm tone, but there was a bit of edginess to her voice. She did not like the other kingdoms. They never thought about them. They knew not only criminals were here, yet they still treated it as a jail. They would be happy if everyone in Riasglach died. While they were living in their nice homes with their families while people here were lucky to eat today, disease spread throughout the village and because of that she did not like this female in any form, but Kyrie didn’t want to start something here, for Kyrie was unwelcomed as well. She felt like an outcast in her own home.
“It is that way if you are lost,” she commented as she pointed to the west of them, were the tall gates stood guard, keeping everyone in. Locked and secured. No escape.

When the woman had stood up, Faye had watched her smile of happiness turn into a look of defensiveness. Obviously her kind nature applied only to children and not those older. She wondered what had caused her outlook on the world to be so bleak. Probably the fact that she lives in this hole. Frowning Faye listened as the woman gave her a warning and pointed the way out of the village. Faye was kind of offended, obviously she knew the way out of the village she had come in that way hadn't she..of course it took giving them her last 2 sliver coins to gain entrance and exit for later on, but still she wasn't dumb. Still though Faye nodded quietly before speaking: "I know my way out of here and I know that I need to be careful...I've just had money stolen from me, but I wanted to talk to you because I need your help.," Faye was surprised that she could speak so freely to the woman without feeling nervous that she might take her to a brothel," I want to do something to bring joy to this village especially to the children. I do not have a lot of coins, and besides the money wouldn't last them long in this dismal place, but still there must be something that I can do." She waited for the woman to answer her praying that she had asked the right person and not someone who only pretended to like children so that when they got older she could take them to a brothel...it didn't seem like many of these parents would mind having one less mouth to feed.

“Oh,” Kyrie said as she turned her gaze away from the girl for a moment, as she looked around the village. It was odd. Someone from the outside world actually wanted to help? No, that couldn’t be the case. She was once that ignorant too. She wouldn’t fall for that trick again. She turned and looked toward the girl and gave her a cold gaze. “Why do you wish to help this place? Just go back to your warm bed and forget about us. There is nothing you can do…and plus this place is a piece of crap to begin with. You can be done with your charity work for the day.” She said in a cold tone. Kyrie wasn’t going to fall for anymore tricks, what was the girl really after? Did she want to steal what little they had already? Or was she a spy? She wasn’t sure, but she wasn’t going to trust it.
“Plus, even if you were sincere…which I doubt it, everyone from the outside world hates us, you can’t get no help from me….” Kyrie said in a stern voice. She was giving this girl the benefit of the doubt (but that didn’t mean she trusted her) she turned and looked at the woman who was still whispering to each other, looking directly at her. Honestly, didn’t these people have better things to do? Not only were the women staring at her, but the men were too, but in different ways. Kyrie snorted and turned back to the girl. “If you haven’t noticed, I’m not welcomed in this place. People hate me. You will get a bad name if you keep talking to me, so it’s best you be on your way now.” Her voice wasn’t as cold before, but it still had a certain edge to it. Kyrie hated this place, but she hated the outside world even more. She had no place she belonged. She was an outcast even among the outcast. Just a common whore.

Faye looked around and for the first time she saw that everyone was staring at them and it wasn't a nice stare that showed that they liked them, it was a stare of pure disgust well at least it was in the women, but in the men it was a look of pure lust. Folding her arms around herself slightly, Faye couldn't help feeling like maybe it was a bad idea to come here. Turning back and looking at the woman Faye frowned and allowed all the pain and hurt that she had bottled up inside to enter her mind at full force because she could see that the only way to get through to this woman was to sound confident and a little bit harsh. She remembered the day her family died, all the bitterness she felt that no one had tried to help them, the horror of being sent to an orphanage and how all the kids mocked her and beat her up and as they got older tried to rape her, she even thought about how the orphanage had tried to sell her to a brothel and the fear and anger she felt because of. She let all that emotion roll over her before she spat out bitterly " Look, you may think I come from money, that I sleep in a nice warm bed at night but I could tell you true horror stories that would make your blood curl. I've had a hard life ever since my parents died when I was eight. I've been mocked, beaten up, almost raped, attacked, and a lot of other things. So I would really appreciate it if you didn't judge me. Also charity? Yeah right I'm too poor to give meaningless charity so people's husbands can use it to get drunk and the wife and kids never get any food. Oh yeah, and like I care if people judge me for talking to you. I'm not exactly liked by people so give me a break will you because I'm simply trying to bring a little bit of joy to this place and when I saw you helping those kids I thought you felt like that too....." At this point Faye was on the verge of tears but, she was relieved by the fact that she sounded more confident then she actually was because on the inside she felt like she was going to keel over and die. Why.why am I talking like this to her, she thought. She could kill me and end my life on this earth without so much as a thought. She might even be a thug. Staring at the woman she tried to wipe the tears that were running down her face away with a sodden handkerchief she had found in her pocket, even though she knew it was only helping to dirty her face, as she waited for the woman's response.
