“What life are you seeking?” Dedrallow asked him. “What is it you wish to do once you get out of school? Settle down? Get a good paying job? Is that all you want?” Dedrallow was being a hypocrite. He always wondered what it would be like to have a normal life, to settle down with someone forever, but changelings can never sit still – they are always on the move. Cassander and him only had one thing in common – they were both immortal. The thoughts that Dedrallow had about staying in one place, meant he had an average lifespan, if he was a regular human. In all reality he would drive himself crazy staying in one place for that long.
“I’m not saying it’s all cracked up as you read in your little books or whatever, but it does have it days…” Dedrallow said, by this point he was just rambling, he wanted to make sure that Cassander stayed awake, after all he was just dropped on the ground by a 20 foot something giant, who knows if he had a concussion or not. “Alright then, you have to stay awake and tell me where to go…honestly I never been to this school, so I don’t know my way around.” Sure Dedrallow has been to almost everywhere and he has been near the school before, but never in it, what was the point of that? He continued to lead Rouge the way that path that Cassander pointed too, hoping there was no trouble along the way.
“How long will it take us to get there?” Dedrallow asked him, as they walked down the trail.

“A life full of books and magic and science and…and…” His voice trailed away as he nodded forward in fatigue, his face landing on Rouge’s crest. “Ow…” He commented, straightening back up and rubbing his nose, then withdrawing his hand in disguise, as he had rubbed more of the giant slime into his face. Some skin cream. “Y’know…giants really should employ dental hygiene…this is quite…gross.” He finished, lamely.
He ignored Dedrallow’s condescension towards the wonder of his “little books”, as he put it. In all his time at Ioralta, his was the lecture he didn’t care to hear. Cassander had not yet fallen asleep during a lecture, but there was a first time for everything. Nestling into Rouge’s mane and the cat’s fur, he began to nod off again. The cat was purring and had curled up on Rouge’s withers. In the end, what kept the banshee boy awake was the chill that had suddenly come over him.
“Five minutes.” He mumbled. “It’s freezing. Want to sleep…now…”

“I’m sure that’s not on their list of priorities right now,” Dedrallow mentioned as they continued to walk. He wasn’t sure if the banshee was getting tired because he hit his head or because it was late, but Dedrallow didn’t want him to be responsible for getting knocked out and who knows what. Luckily banshee’s were immortal so it was pretty tough to kill them off just like that. In the end Dedrallow knew he would be alright, but he would rather just get this over with and not have to deal with it any longer then he already has. He watched as Cassander began to nod off. Dedrallow walked over to him and slapped him across the cheek. Hoping the sting would alert him enough to stay awake.
“Stay up you idiot! You claim to be smart, than you should know better NOT to fall asleep,” Dedrallow hissed at them as they walked on. These five minutes was going to seem like forever. “You can sleep as much as you want later, but for now you need to stay awake.” Dedrallow huffed as he tried to pick up the pace some. It wasn’t long though before he spotted the gate that Cassander had mentioned not too long ago. Thank, god that they were almost there. Now only if he could keep the young banshee from passing out on him. If he started to fall asleep again, Dedrallow might have to do something drastic to keep him awake.

“Your face is funny.” Cassander declared, his words slurred as he drifted off into a warm heaven of soft fur and sweet-smelling horsehair. The changeling’s manners must have been abysmal, for he seemed intent on waking Cassander repeatedly, telling him how he needed to stay awake for…some stupid reason. Could he shut it? Cassander only wanted to sink further into his delicious sleep.
Suddenly, Rouge’s lullaby of horse hooves against the ground came to an end and Cassander sat up straight, his eyes flying open and he squinted at the familiar gate in front of him. Raising his right hand in a motion as stiff as a board, he murmured, “Opartisk.” And the gates opened, letting them through.

Dedrallow ignored Cassander’s comment as they trudged forward, before they made it to the gate. He watched as Cassander perked up just enough to say the word to open the gate. He sighed as he made his way through the large gates. He walked a few feet before he turned back at the banshee. He didn’t know where the infirmary was, this was one of the few places where he was at a complete lost. “Where do we need to go from here?” He asked the young boy, “We need to hurry. Hopefully it is not too far from here.” Dedrallow was a rather uncaring person, but he had some sympathy for him, after all he spent his life what seemed like closed behind walls and now he had gotten hurt, which probably could have been easily avoided. Dedrallow sighed. This was his good act for the century.
